Puffins are one of the most charismatic creatures Alaska has to offer - and you can get your fill right here in Prince William Sound! We have two species of puffins nesting in Prince William Sound each summer, the horned puffin and the tufted puffin, each very different from one another in both appearance and breeding biology. These amazing birds and much of the wildlife that shares the North Gulf coastal ecosystem with them are featured on many boat tours out of Whittier or Seward, but most of them have a set itinerary and route to follow. Now you can customize your own Prince William Sound tour!
Puffin mania package:
(Available mid-June through mid-August based out of Seward)
This package includes two tours: First get to experience puffins up close behind the scenes with aviculture staff at a world class facility that houses both horned and tufted puffins in captivity (as well as many other seabirds.) Learn how they take care of them and breed them and you will also get the opportunity to offer some of the puffins a fishy meal!
Then make you way down to the harbor to take the Resurrection Bay cruise to see the wildlife that calls this their summer home, including wild puffins! This 4-5 hour tour includes a delicious meal on Fox Island! Other wildlife to be seen on this cruise includes whales, porpoise, seals, sea lions, sea otters, mountain goats, black bear and a wide variety of bird species. Call for times!
Both the boat based and land based portion of this package can be booked individually - and on different days if needed.
$199 per person (includes all taxes and fees)
ALL DAY Puffin Tour
(Available mid-May through mid-August)
Based off of a unique base camp vessel in Prince William Sound and conducted by small vessels with groups of 1 to 6 people, we can cruise the waters of the sound viewing birds for up to 8 hours/day. Our small vessels are less intrusive to the wildlife and we can go places that the larger tour boats cannot go. With our local knowledge of the area and birds, we can customize your tour to suit you and help you find the species you’re looking for, including the elusive Kittlitz's Murrelet.
